(Effective Feb 28, 2005 - Latest changes shown in blue)
- 1) RULES: U.S.G.A. Rules shall govern
all play except as modified below and by local rules. See scorecard.
- 2) FORMAT: The Stableford scoring
system is used in accordance with USGA Rule 32-1b. MSIS matches are stroke play competitions where
Stableford points
rather than strokes determine the winners. Points are earned
using your NET HOLE SCORE as follows:
- ONE OVER
PAR 1 POINT
- PAR 2 POINTS
- ONE UNDER
PAR 3 POINTS
- TWO UNDER
PAR 4 POINTS
- THREE UNDER
PAR 5 POINTS
- FOUR UNDER
PAR 6 POINTS
NOTE: Your net score is figured by
subtracting any handicap strokes you receive on the hole from your
gross hole score PRIOR to applying Equitable Stroke Control (ESC) (see
Equitable Stroke Control below). Please note that that there are
no points awarded for net double bogey or higher. Therefore, for
speed of play, once
your attempt for net bogey is unsuccessful AND you have reached your
maximum Equitable Stroke Control (ESC) score, pick your ball up.
- 3) SCORECARDS:
For each hole, record your gross
score (not to exceed your ESC
score) and points earned on the official
scorecard. At the end of the round, total the
Stableford points and gross score for each player and return the
scorecard to the Golf Shop.
Scorekeeper and player must sign the applicable scorecard.
The
scoring staff will reject all scorecards that have not been signed by
the scorer and the player and scorecards that do not have Stableford
points totaled. If the missing information is not provided in a timely
manner, the player will be disqualified and given zero points for the
day. If an error on a scorecard awards too many Stableford Points on any given hole or in
the Stableford points total, (he)
the player will be disqualified.
If a card has an error on
the scorecard that awards too few
Stableford Points on any given hole or in the Stableford points
total, the erroneous score will stand.
-
4) PRIZES: The team with the most total
Stableford points (all 8 players) will be declared the winner. Prizes
are awarded for first, second and third place teams. Winning merchandise certificate payoffs
per player are
as follows:
etc.
5) TIE BREAKER: Ties for the prizes
will be broken as follows: When two or more teams have the same total
Stableford points, the seven highest point totals for each team are
used, the highest total being the winner. If that fails to
break the tie(s) then the six highest point totals for each team are
used, winner will be the team with the highest total.
If the tie still exist then five scores are used in the same manner
etc. until a winner is determined.
6) FEWER THAN EIGHT PLAYERS:
-
a) When a team has seven or fewer players the
missing player(s) will be awarded the same score as the lowest player in
the field scored that day.
-
b) The
preceding also applies to member teams which have
no players for a match. For example, a member team does not play
in a match. The lowest score in the field that day is 21.
That team will get 21 x 8 points for a team score of 168.
- c)
Teams that have 5 or less players may play but they are excused from
paying into the prize pool, are not eligible for prizes and their scores
do not count for handicap purposes. These
teams will be awarded points just like those with no players as
described above.
7) RAIN: If you leave the course and the
pro shop has not canceled the event, your team will not be able to post
a score for you beyond the points already accumulated
or you will receive points per rule 6b above
(which ever is greater). Lightning will
stop the event, but the call if there is no lightning resides in the pro
shop.
8) QUITTING IN MID ROUND: If any
player(s) quits in mid-round when a match has not been officially
canceled, that players will be awarded Stableford points as
follows: A quitting player will be awarded 27 (-9) Stableford points
except if he is already at -9 or more he is awarded his actual score
minus 3 more Stableford points.
- 9) TEES: All players will play from the
designated tee markers (usually about 6000 yards).
- 10) PACE OF PLAY: Each pairing is
requested to maintain a steady pace of play and to keep up with the
group in front of them.
- 11) ELIGIBILITY: MSIS participation is
limited to men members from our member clubs. If otherwise
qualified a player is eligible to participate in MSIS events in the
month he attains age 55.
- 12) ANNUAL CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM: The
Championship team for each year is determined by
the total of Stableford points earned each month plus
the Stableford points scored in the the John
Brady Cup match at the end of the season. Standings will be
published each month on this web site.
If two or more teams tie for the
Brady Cup, the team that was leading in the standings just prior to the
Brady Cup match will be awarded the cup.

13)
MEMBER CLUBS:
The
addition of any new member clubs must be approved by the Team Reps who
will be notified by phone or email by the Scheduling Chairman.
Handicapping
In order to have a level playing
field for our events, the Men's Senior Interclub Series uses our own
handicap indexes. These indexes are based solely on scores
posted in our Men's Senior Interclub Series events.
Accordingly the following applies:
- Complete and legible score cards for each
player are required:
- Scorecards must include
Equitable Stroke Controlled (ESC) scores for each hole and the
total ESC score for the round for each player. ESC maximum
scores for each hole are:
- Handicap 0-9, double bogey
- Handicap 10-19, seven (7)
- Handicap 20-29, eight (8)
- Handicap 30-39, nine (9)
- Handicap 40 and above, ten
(10)
- Scorecards must include the
Stableford points earned on each hole as well as the total
Stableford points for the round for each player. Note:
Stableford points are calculated prior to applying ESC.
- Scorecards must include both
first and last names for each player.
- A player will not have a Men's Senior
Interclub Series handicap index until he has completed three rounds
using this system.
- A player will continue to use his
home course handicap index prior to establishing a Men's Senior Interclub
Series handicap index. While using a home course handicap
index, a player is limited to a maximum of 38 Stableford points for
any one event.
- The handicap index calculation
method is shown here.
