Rules Prior to Feb 28,
2005
Rules
(Changes made at Oak Bridge Team Reps meeting
in May 2004 shown in blue)
- RULES: U.S.G.A. Rules shall govern
all play except as modified by local rules. See scorecard.
- FORMAT: The Stableford scoring
system is used. This is a stroke play competition where points
rather than strokes determine the winners. Points are earned
using your NET SCORE as follows:
- BOGEY
1 POINT
- PAR
2 POINTS
- BIRDIE
3 POINTS
- EAGLE
4 POINTS
- DOUBLE
EAGLE 5 POINTS
NOTE: Your net score is figured by
subtracting any handicap strokes you receive on the hole from your
gross hole score PRIOR to applying Equitable Stroke Control (ESC) (see
Equitable Stroke Control below). Please note that that there are
no points awarded for net double bogey or worse. Therefore, for
speed of play, once
your attempt for net bogey is unsuccessful AND you have reached your
maximum Equitable Stroke Control (ESC) score, pick your ball up.
For each hole, please record your gross
score (not to exceed your ESC
score) and points earned on the official
scorecard. At the end of the round, total the
Stableford points and gross score for each player and return the
scorecard to the Golf Shop.
-

TIE BREAKER: Ties for the prizes
will be broken as follows: When two or more teams have the same total
Stableford points, the six highest point totals for each team are
used, the highest total being the winner. If that fails to
break the tie(s) then the five highest point totals for each team are
used, winner will be the team with the highest total.
If the tie still exist then four scores are used in the same manner
etc. until a winner is determined.
FEWER THAN EIGHT PLAYERS:
When a team has only seven players they will use
all seven players scores for their team total points. When a
team has only six
players for a match they will be given a score of 27 (-9) Stableford
points for the seventh
player.
Teams that have 5 or less players may play but they are excused from
paying into the prize pool, are not eligible for prizes and their scores
do not count for handicap purposes.
Rain - If you leave the course and the
pro shop has not canceled the event, your team will not be able to post
a score for you beyond the points already accumulated. Lightning will
stop the event, but the call if there is no lightning resides in the pro
shop.
QUITTING IN MID ROUND: If any
player(s) quits in mid-round when a match has not been officially
canceled, that players will be awarded Stableford points as
follows: A quitting player will be awarded 27 (-9) Stableford points
except if he is already at -9 or more he is awarded his actual score
minus 3 more Stableford points.
- TEES: All players will play from the
designated tee markers (usually about 6000 yards).
- PACE OF PLAY: Each pairing is
requested to maintain a steady pace of play and to keep up with the
group in front of them.
- ELIGIBILITY: MSIS participation is
limited to men members from our member clubs. If otherwise
qualified a player is eligible to participate in MSIS events in the
month he attains age 55.
- ANNUAL CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM: The
Championship team for each year is determined by the total of event
points earned each month plus event points earned in the the John
Brady Cup match at the end of the season. Standings will be
published each month on this web site.
- Monthly event points are twelve (12)
points for a 1st place finish, eleven (11) points for a second place
finish, ten (10) points for 3rd, etc. down to one (1) point for a last place
(if all 12 teams play) and zero (0) points for a team that doesn't
play.
- Event points for the John Brady Cup
match are: 1st
(27.5), 2nd (25), 3rd (22.5) etc
down to 12th (0.0). These
points will be added to the team total for the year. The
team with the highest number of points will be awarded the John
Brady Cup. If there is a tie for first place, that tie will
be broken with our normal tie breaker rule. i.e. In the
match you will use the highest 8 of your 12 Stableford point
totals to determine the winner. If two or more teams tie for
The Cup, they will use the highest 7 of their point totals, then
the highest 6, etc. until the tie is broken.
Handicapping
In order to have a level playing
field for our events, the Men's Senior Interclub Series uses our own
handicap indexes. These indexes are based solely on scores
posted in our Men's Senior Interclub Series events.
Accordingly the following applies:
- Complete and legible score cards for each
player are required:
- Scorecards must include
Equitable Stroke Controlled (ESC) scores for each hole and the
total ESC score for the round for each player. ESC maximum
scores for each hole are:
- Handicap 0-9, double bogey
- Handicap 10-19, seven (7)
- Handicap 20-29, eight (8)
- Handicap 30-39, nine (9)
- Handicap 40 and above, ten
(10)
- Scorecards must include the
Stableford points earned on each hole as well as the total
Stableford points for the round for each player. Note:
Stableford points are calculated prior to applying ESC.
- Scorecards must include both
first and last names for each player.
- A player will not have a Men's Senior
Interclub Series handicap index until he has completed three rounds
using this system.
- A player will continue to use his
home course handicap index prior to establishing a Men's Senior Interclub
Series handicap index. While using a home course handicap
index, a player is limited to a maximum of 38 Stableford points for
any one event.
- The handicap index calculation
method is shown here.
