John Brady Cup Match
The John Brady Cup match will be played at The Palencia Golf Club on January 10, 2005.  This match will wrap up our season and determine the 2004 Champion who will keep the Brady Cup at their club until the 2005 winner is known.  Mia Brady is scheduled to attend and present the Cup to the winning team.  It is rumored that Toby Riley will attend also.

At Palencia we will have an 11:00 am shotgun start.  We'll be playing from the blue tees at about 6100 yards.  A box lunch with a soft drink are included.  The lunches and soft drinks will be placed on our carts before tee off.  There will be a pay-as-you-go beverage cart on the course.

We will play with 10 man teams and use the best eight Stableford point totals to determine team scores.  Our normal tie breaker rule will be used, if needed, except we will use best 7, best 6, etc. until a winner is decided.  Points awarded for the Brady Cup match are: 1st 27.5, 2nd 25.0, 3rd 22.5 etc. down to zero for 12th place if we have all our teams.  These points are then added to each team's season total to determine the Cup winner.

The top four teams in the current standings will be paired together in 10 foursomes.  Everyone else will be paired in the other foursomes.  The top 6 teams in the current standings have a mathematical chance to win the Cup.

In the event that the Brady Cup match cannot be played (severe weather etc.) the winner of the Brady will be the current points leader (Orange Park).  Lets make every effort to play as Palencia is putting a lot of effort into the match.  They have committed and so has MSIS.  If you sign up to play.... BE THERE!

Costs to each player are:
$60 To Palencia (includes golf, cart, range balls, box lunch and all taxes)
$  5  Pot game
$  1  Handicap & Tournament fee
$66 Total (tips are not included)

In addition to the Cup we will have a pot game with cash prizes for the top three teams decided by the points determined per the above.  Payoffs will approximate the percentages of our normal monthly matches and be based on the number of players as follows:

Queen's Harbour
Queen's Harbour has resigned from the Interclub due to "lack of interest".  They will be missed and hopefully, join us again some day.  Next year's schedule will be adjusted to accommodate this change of membership.

Web Site
A change of our web host (Hypermart) is being considered.  We are not having any problems with Hypermart but I think we can get more storage space for the same price.  We are currently using only 12.5 of our allotted 75 megabytes (17%) so we have plenty of space for the Interclub stuff.  I am considering using the remainder of the space for other things.  Our current account is paid up until Feb 13, 2005.  If a change is made it will be just before that date.

If a change of our web host is made, it will mean a new address for our web site.  That could be a good thing as we could end up with MSIS.org or Sr-Interclub.com orJaxSI.org or???.  Any suggestions?

The 'Discussions' pages on our web site will be dropped.  This really hasn't turned out to be a very popular feature.  If we ever decide that we need it, it can always be reinstated.

Schedule for 2005

Roy Gulick, Scheduling Chairman, and the Team Reps have done a good job completing the schedule for 2005.  The dates have been set and the process of getting commitments signed by the appropriate home course official and Team Reps will begin the first week of 2005.  The commitments include the fees, what all is included in the fees, and our tournament requirements.  We are shooting for and hoping to get the same rates we had in 2004.  All of this advance work should make things go a little smoother next year.

Something to think about....
How about starting an MSIS Hole-In-One pot?  Just as suggestions and thoughts.....
  • Mandatory 25 cents per player per match
  • Entire pot to any player getting an Ace in an Interclub event except
  • 2 or more in same day split the pot
  • Need a treasurer???  Any volunteers of nominees???
  • How do we collect the money? Payments could be taken from the existing $8 that we now put in for monthly prizes.  This would reduce our prizes slightly
  • We will collect about $260 per year at current participation levels
  • Should we max out the pot at $500 and then start another contingency pot for a closely following Ace?

The match at St Johns
The day at St Johns turned out to be very enjoyable.  Some great golf was played including Larry Holder's best ever 75.  The course was in good shape and St Johns did everything we asked of them with regard to the scorecards and scoreboards.  All that and there were only two roster changes made after the submittal deadline.  That was great!

I was sorry to hear that some of our players got little or nothing to eat at St Johns.  I didn't find out about that until the Tuesday after the match.  I have written to Dan Zimmer and asked that he make sure that doesn't happen again next time we play there.

We did have our usual spate of bad scorecards:  A few examples are included here:

The above card has gross scores and net scores both crowded into one box.  Net scores are needed by no one.  If you personally feel the need for net scores, please put them into a block of their own.  We request one scorecard per player so there is plenty of room for scoring.  Please use it.  Crowding makes the cards very difficult to audit.

The above scorecard has two stroke control errors.  This player is allowed to have a maximum gross score on any one hole of 7.  These errors did not affect the Stableford Points but, if not corrected, they would inflate the player's handicap for future matches.  We had numerous stroke control errors this month.  Please watch this.  Players with handicaps of 9 or less may take a maximum of a double bogey on any hole.  Players with handicaps of 10 - 19 may take a maximum of 7 on any hole.  Those from 20 - 29 may take an 8, those from 30 - 39 may take a 9, and those at 40 or above may take a 10.

This is a great scorecard.  We had many like this at St Johns.  Thanks for the good work.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all.
