May 2007

To all MSIS Addressees,

The weather was great and the course was in fine condition.  St Johns played very short even for us seniors and the good scoring reflected that. The average gross score was 87.3, which is 4 stokes lower than last month.  Head Golf Professional David Leininger did a great job for us.  The scorecards and scoreboards were perfect.  Thanks to Team RepJack Parrish and the 3 other volunteers from St Johns, Gene Pottenger, Jerry Menne and Billy Kirkland.  I thought the food was excellent. I heard no complaints from any of you.

WINNERS

First place was taken by St Johns with a score of 276.  St Johns was led by Team Rep Jack Parrish's 50 point performance.  Jack shot a best ever 82! Second place was taken by Ponte Vedra, at 274.  Jacksonville G&CC at 271 took 3rd place and Deercreek took 4th place with 267 points.

SPEED-OF-PLAY

Zzzzzzzzzz 4-1/2 to 5-1/4 hours.  I think this is about as good as we can do.  We might as well face the facts.

SCORECARDS

You scorekeepers did a fine job this month. Thanks for your help and cooperation.  Please use a zero (0) for ALL pick up holes.  There are two simple but effective rules to follow:

    1) Player completes a hole - Enter actual gross score
    2) Player picks up - Enter a zero but NOT an 'X' nor an adjusted score

Remember the computers will make all adjustments and convert zeros to the correct adjusted score but . . . . . . . the computer cannot work with "X"s.

Much thanks to all of those who helped out with the computer scoring at San Jose: Roy Gulick MP John Pujol QH, Larry Von Dolteren SN, Jack Parrish SJ, Gene Pottenger SJ, Jerry Menne SJ and Billy Kirkland SJ.

Zero errors were made at the scoring table.  This is a first!  The volunteers did a great job!  Please thank them when you see them.

NEXT MONTH
