July 2007

To all MSIS Addressees,

I for one really enjoyed the day at Palencia.  Maybe that was because my team finished in the money for a change.  But is was a nice day.  The weather was perfect and the pace of play was pretty good.  That could be because the pin placements weren't nearly as severe as they were the last time we player there.  The gold course was in good shape, the lunch was great and most things went very smoothly.

Thanks to all the people who helped out at Palencia.  That includes Head PGA Pro John Upton, Assistant Pro Dan Meinert, in the Pro Shop were Mike Broderick and Dan Picot, Team Rep John Lopiano, Roy Gulick, John Pujol, Don Poppleton, Dan Dickman, Mark Good, Jim Brady, and Hank Flug.  Not to mention the bag boys, refreshment cart girls and the greens keepers.  Whew, it takes a lot of people to make this thing work.  Please thank them when you see them.

First place was taken by Orange Park with a score of 258.  Orange Park was led by Al Aldrich's 50 point performance!  Second place was taken by Marsh Landing at 254 points, 42 of which were garnered by Dave Lehman.  Third place went to Hidden Hills, at 254, who enjoyed 45 points from Joe Kennedy and 44 points from yours truly.... no s--t!   San Jose, at 250 was fourth, lead by 43 points from Team Rep Evans Sumner.

SCORECARDS

The scorecards were only fair this month.  Poor legibility really is tough to deal with at the scoring table.  When you players sign your card for correctness, you also need to look and see if it is legible.  When we cannot figure out if a figure is one number or the other, we usually opt for the higher number.  You should be concerned about that.  It could cost you a victory.

Three cards had "X"s on them!  You are always requested NOT to use "X"s for pick-up holes.  Always use a zero.

There are two simple but effective rules to follow:

    1) Player completes a hole - Enter actual gross score
    2) Player picks up - Enter a zero but NOT an 'X' nor an adjusted score

Remember the computers will make all adjustments and convert zeros to the correct adjusted score but . . . . . . . the computer cannot work with "X"s.

NEXT MONTH

The Jacksonville Golf & CCMonday Aug 139:00 am shotgun.

WEB SITE

Working well.  Check it out.  There is lots of information here and many questions that are asked of me can be answered right here at www.jaxsi.org.  Our handicap system is a hot top right now.  All the information about our handicap system is on the web site except the whys and wherefores.  Write or call me if you want the history.

ARTICLES

Articles of interest to MSIS members are accepted and will be published in this report.  Just email your article to me.  You must sign it.

I am sure that you all see or hear things at our matches that would be of interest to us all.  Funny stories about things that happen on the course.  They don't have to be the absolute truth!  Brag about a great hole you played or a great shot you hit.  Here again, you may stretch the truth.  Write them up and send them to me.  It would make this a much more interesting publication.  If I don't get some input on this publication soon, I will assume no one cares about it and it will be discontinued.

Best wishes to Aubrey Daniel (HH) and George Halvorsen (ML) two of our players who are currently ailing.
