Marsh Creek Country Club

It was a very enjoyable day at Marsh Creek.  The course was in good shape.  Our start was delayed a little by late arrivers.  The food was great and the scorecards and scoreboards were perfect.

The course was set up just as we had asked, but the winds made it play harder than usual.  The average score at 91.1 was the highest of the year and the average points at 31.0 was the lowest of the year.  Here are all the year's results with the highest and lowest average gross score and points highlighted:

Month Crs Avg Scr Avg Pts
Feb MP 89.6 36.2
Mar OC 89.3 35.8
Apr EH 88.7 37.1
May PV 89.8 33.3
Jun HH 91.0 34.4
Jul DC 89.2 34.3
Aug SN 87.6 36.0
Sep ML 88.6 34.9
Oct SJ 86.7 36.1
Nov MC 91.1 31.0

We only had two changes to the rosters after they were submitted for this match.  That is great!

Thanks for all the after-match scoring help. Those who helped were Roy Gulick (MP), Larry Von Dolteren (SN), Glenn Dobrick (SG), Odie Skeen (MC), John Richardson (MC), Rick Ault (EH), and Tim Palmer (MC).  And it was a great job that they did.  No errors!

WINNERS:

Marsh Creek, the host club, took first place with a score of 244 points.  MC was led by 40 points from John Murray and 37 points from Dennis Donahue.  Most of the regular players for MC were in Myrtle Beach.  The bunch that played in this match did a great job of 'filling in'.  Maybe they can convince the regulars to travel more often!

Osprey Cove with a score of 234 was second place.  OC was led by Bill Cutting's 37 point performance and another 36 points from Joe Ferrantino.

Third place was taken by Marsh Landing (2 months in a row) with a score of 233.  They were led by 41 points from Team Rep, John Arnold and 40 points from George Halvorsen.

Jacksonville Golf & CC, with a score of 232 was fourth.  JG was led by
40 points from Wayne St Clair and 36 from Rick Cottey.

There is only 1 match left in the 2008 season.  In the last match all points are doubled so that is like 2 more matches to go.  JG seems to have a lock on the Cup but anything can happen.  ML, SN or SG will need to have a great day and JG will have to have a very poor day for the leaders to lose out.  Other teams have a mathematical chance of winning the Cup but that is very unlikely.

Can JG hang on and make it two Championship years in a row?  Big question.  We'll know soon.

SCORECARDS

Everyone turned in a scorecard after the match. Most of the scorecards were filled in perfectly and were very legible.  Some people did not understand that the player's gross score needs to be put in the blocks where the handicap stroke dots reside and NOT in the 'Markers Gross' blocks at the bottom of the card.

This error slowed us down some at the scoring table.  Other than that the cards were good.  Thanks for your help in correcting these issues.  Always put the gross score in the block with the handicap dots.  This is normally directly left of the player's name.

SCORING:

We made no errors at the scoring table this month! These computer scorer guys deserve a great deal of credit for what they do and how well they do it.  These guys are GOOD!

I am sure that you all see or hear things at our matches that would be of interest to us all.  Funny stories about things that happen on the course.  They don't have to be the absolute truth!  Brag about a great hole you played or a great shot you hit.  Here again, you may stretch the truth.  Write them up and send them to me.  It would make this a much more interesting publication.  Please help out.  Surely someone out there has an opinion or suggestion for the Interclub.
