It was a great day at Marsh Landing. Lots of good scores were made.  The course was in wonderful shape with fast greens which rolled true.  The food was great and the scorecards and scoreboards were right on.

We only had one change to the rosters after they were submitted for this match.  That is EXCELLENT!  Everyone showed up on time and everyone turned in a scorecard.  A very nice day.

Thanks for all the help at Marsh Landing. Those who helped were Roy Gulick (MP), Larry Von Dolteren (SN), John Pujol (QH), John Arnold (ML), Ray Cabano (ML), Terry Mohr (ML) and Dave Lehman (ML).

WINNERS:

Marsh Landing, the host club, took first place with a score of 266 points.  ML was led by 42 points from Gordon Knight and 41 points from Ray Cabano.

Orange Park with a score of 262 was second....... but only after winning a 'best 6' tie-breaker with Deercreek.  OP was led by Jerry Meyer's 44 point performance and another 40 points from Gary Hill.  Deercreek was led by 42 points from Jud Schwartz and 40 points from Dan Haskell.

Hidden Hills, long missing from the winner's circle, took 4th place.  HH was led by 40 points from each Ron Arledge and Ed Welsh.

This was really a close match.  Ten team were within 13 points of the 266 winning score!

There are only 3 matches left in the 2008 season.  However, the in last match all points are doubled so that is like 4 more matches to go.

SCORECARDS

The scorecards were very good this month.  There were only a few cards where legibility was an issue.

SCORING:

We made only one error at the scoring table this month! These guys deserve a great deal of credit for what they do and how well they do it.  These guys are GOOD!

BRADY CUP PLANNING

In the past it has been our practice to solicit donated door prizes for the awards ceremony after the season ending Brady Cup match.  The reason for the prizes was to hold a decent sized crowd to see the winners receive the Brady Cup.  Since the prizes were donated, we limited winners to players in the field that day.  We also stipulated that in order to win a door prize you must be present for the drawing.

This year, things are different.  For each match that you play in, you are contributing one dollar to the general fund which will be used to buy door prizes for this years match.  It would hardly be fair to limit the winners to those playing that day.

So this year, for each dollar that you contributed to the fund, you will have one ticket in the drawing.  i.e. If you played 5 times you get 5 chances to win.....  10 times and you get 10 chances.

You must still be present to win the prize.  We will invite all non-participants that day to come by after the match and after lunch to buy a beer (if we have enough money, maybe we can spring for a keg or two), watch the awards, and have a chance at winning a nice prize.

Initial plans for prizes are: (subject to change)

      1) $700 gift certificate for (see below)
      2) $100 gift certificate to Ruth's Chris Steakhouse
      3) $100 gift certificate to the Bonefish Grill
      4) $100 gift certificate to Sterlings of Avondale
      5) Dozen Pro V1 (TPC Logo)
      6) Dozen Pro V1 (TPC Logo)

      7) Dozen Pro V1 (TPC Logo)

By the way, we will still accept donated prizes but we won't twist your arm quite as much this year.

My original plan was to buy a $700 certificate at Amelia Island Plantation.  It looks like a certificate of that size would buy much more more time and golf in North Carolina.... say at Lake Lure which is about 6-1/2 hours driving time from Jacksonville.  Think about which option you would prefer and let your team rep know your opinion.  I will be asking the Team Reps to vote on this issue before long.

I am sure that you all see or hear things at our matches that would be of interest to us all.  Funny stories about things that happen on the course.  They don't have to be the absolute truth!  Brag about a great hole you played or a great shot you hit.  Here again, you may stretch the truth.  Write them up and send them to me.  It would make this a much more interesting publication.  Please help out.  Surely someone out there has an opinion or suggestion for the Interclub.
