It was hot day at Ponte Vedra. Most of the heat was coming from the home team......... while the rest of us wilted. Rain, lightning and thunder came in after everyone had finished their rounds. That was a blessing. All that remained was to eat lunch and tally up the scores. The course was in great
shape, and the food was good. We had 112 players for the match.
AND THE WINNERS
WERE:
The home team,
Ponte Vedra took first place with a big score of 284.
PV was led by Larry Gonzales with 50 points and Team Rep Jim Bryce with 48 points. A nice
day for the home team. PV is a past Brady Cup Championship team (2004) and it is not too late for them this season. Keep an eye on them, they may be starting to make their move.
Eagle Harbor took second place with a score of 265. The
continued strong play by EH moved them into first place in the race for the Brady Cup. These guys are for real having finished in the money in 5 out of the seven matches this year. EH
was led by Greg Howard with 45 points and by
another 39 points from both Wayne Albright and Mike Lamphier.
Third place was taken by
Sawgrass with a score of 261. Speaking of finishing in the money, SG has done it in 6 of the 7 matches this year! They are currently in second place only four points behind EH. SG was led by 42
points from Bill Swerbenski. Also, Jay Leek chipped in with a nice 39 point performance.
World Golf Village, with a score of 254 was fourth.
WG was led by 41 points from
Jim Hutchison and another 39 points from
Jack Tarr.
With four matches to go in the season, we have a very tight race for the Cup. Eagle Harbor and Sawgrass are nip and tuck for the lead, 14 points back of those two, is Hidden Hills,
followed by Osprey Cove who is 29 points behind the
leaders. Several others are within striking distance. Don't forget, the last match of the season is played for twice as many points so a lot of ground can be gained on the leaders! In the final match, the leaders will be paired together.
CLOSEST TO THE PIN

#5 Jim Bryce (PV) 6' 1-1/2"
#14 Jack Garrity (EH) 3' 4-1/2"

Speaking of closest to
the pin, we are just about out of prizes. A few clubs have been very generous with prizes.
Has your club contributed? We need four prizes
each month. Please HELP! We do not have enough prizes
to see us through the season!!!

You
guys did a very good job with the cards this month.
I only audited 1/3 of the cards but it appeared that the legibility was good and I spotted no Xs on the cards.
We need to remember to NEVER stroke control a score. If a player holes out, give him what he took, even if it is ridiculously high. If a player does not hole out, give him a zero (0)! Our computers do all the stroke controlling. If you do stroke control a score, a player may get points where he doesn't deserve them.
SCORING
The scoring committee did an excellent job this month. I found no errors in our work. In spite of the power outage the computers kept on running on battery power. The outdoor scoreboard was finished in good time in spite of the lightning.
Thanks for all the help with the post-match scoring at Ponte Vedra. Those who helped were Roy Gulick (MP), Mark Good (DC), Larry Dismore (HH), Jim Bryce (PV), Al
Stevens (PV), Bob Skartved (PV) and Al Stevens (PV).

HELP WANTED
I am hearing nothing but dead silence on this. Who is going to step forward?
Due to the ravages of time, there is a need for new people to step up and take the reins of the Men's Senior Interclub. Roy Gulick and I need some relief and rest.
Roy needs someone to take of the Scheduling and PR tasks. Roy has everything pretty much automated so that someone can step right in and go to work. Give Roy a call at 904-284-2296 for more details.

Tools I use extensively: Microsoft Word, Excel, Scorekeeper and Note Tab Lite.
Which piece would you like to tackle?
An easy one for someone to take off my hands would be this monthly newsletter. How about you? Can you help? We have lots of new youngsters in MSIS. Surely there is lots of talent and willingness out there somewhere. Please help!
