Beneath a waning-crescent moon, 15 eight-man teams minus a no-show and a W/D hoped to subdue Jacksonville Golf & Country Club's silver-tee layout at 6202 yards, CR 69.3, and SR 120.
Several players estimated the greens on the Clyde Johnson-Fuzzy Zoeller design were set to 12 or 13 on the Stimpmeter scale. Somewhat off the mark according to JG's head professional, Ray Barr, PGA.
Hell's bells! The USGA recommends 8.5-10.5 for the US Open!
Congratulations to our host-club team representative, Skip Lunsford, for a course that encouraged us to focus on the competition: his golf and tennis shops were closed while the fitness center was open, busy, and unnoticed by 118 senior golfers. The cascading water fountain between holes 9 and 18 enhanced our pleasure after encountering gorgeous flower beds around the course.
Weather conditions were ideal. The temperature ranged from 74-85 degrees; the skies were partly cloudy or mostly sunny; and the breeze varied from 13 mph ESE to 20 mph E.
The mystery of pace of play may never be solved. The earliest group's scorecards were returned five hours, three minutes after the shotgun start. The last cards were returned 48 minutes later. Sadly, one wretch sat on his card for another 19 minutes until he was identified, pinched on the ear, and forced to surrender the missing card.

WINNING TEAMS
Marsh Creek
With 240 points, Captain Dave Spring's team took first place by a six-point margin. Gerry Stevens led the team with 39 points. Otherwise, Marsh Creek's scores were well-balanced with a standard deviation of 2.6 points, second best in the field. Jacksonville G&CC, the host team, enjoyed the least dispersion, 2.3 points. Unfortunately, Jacksonville averaged three points below quota.
Deercreek
Captain Dave Noble's team took second place with 234 points. Dudley Mendheim was the team "stick" with 41 points. Today was moving day for Deercreek, climbing two places on this season's ladder.
Eagle Harbor
Captain Gary Owensby's team took third place with 234 points. They were stabbed in the heart by a three-point tiebreaker to Deercreek. Mike Lamphier, on a continuing hot streak, once again brought home the bacon with 41 points. Eagle Harbor gained one place in the season standings.
St. Johns
Captain Bob White's team was edged by two points, taking fourth place with 232 points. Michael Boyer led his team with 39 points. St. Johns is temporarily stalled at fifth place on the season ladder.

SUBMITTED ARTICLE
One of our more intense and lower handicapped players had a small but embarrassing lapse on a tee box at JG&CC. Probably you all noticed that the silver tee markers are quite small (similar to a golf ball) and their color is also similar to a golf ball. Well, at least, a dirty golf ball.
This player, who will remain anonymous, was into his heavy concentration mode when he addressed his ball. Suddenly, with red face, he backed off when he realized he had addressed the tee marker!!!!
SCHEDULE CHANGE
Our next event, at Orange Park, was recently rescheduled to Thursday, June 24, 8:30 am.
Please change your calendar.
SCORECARDS
Three cards were marked with Xs. Marking "0" (zero) in lieu of “X” is much appreciated by your post-match scoring team!
NEVER pick-up on a hole until you reach your maximum ESC score AND you can no longer score a point. At that point, pick-up and mark "0" on your scorecard.
NEVER, NEVER stroke control your score. Our computers are programmed to do that for you. If both you and the computer stroke controls your score, your points may be incorrect.
LAPTOP COMPUTER OWNERS
We are nearing a critical shortage of laptop owners willing to bring their computer to the course and help with after the post-match scoring.
If you qualify, please identify yourself to your Team Rep. We offer low or no wages, a lot of pressure, on-the-job training, and a nasty boss.
All kidding aside, alternatives to our computerized scoring are NOT pretty. Please come forward with your offer to help.
NEXT MATCH
Country Club of Orange Park.
Thursday, June 24, 2010, 8:30 am shotgun.

ARTICLES SOLICITED
Please submit an article that might interest our members. It needn't be related to golf.
Surely you've seen or heard things during MSIS our matches that would be of interest to us all. Funny stories about things that happen on the course. They don't have to be the absolute truth! Brag about a great hole you played or a great shot you hit. Here again, you may stretch the truth. Write them up and send them to me. It would make this a much more interesting publication. Please help out. Surely someone out there has an opinion or suggestion for the Interclub.
