Men's Senior Interclub Series Special Meeting Minutes Sawgrass Country Club Team Representatives or Proxies (P) Present John Arnold, ML Bill Basney, SN Bill Bremner, QH Tony DeMarco, OC (P) Officers Present Barney Poston, Handicap & Tournament Chairman
I – Call to Order Chairman Poston called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m., introduced the 16 participants, and declared the purpose of the meeting was to consider the agenda items and questions set forth in an email dated August 30. II – Cost and Scheduling Barney stated that the one agenda item and the purpose of the meeting was to decide whether or not to grant an increase in match rates which was being requested by two member clubs, Sawgrass CC and World Golf Village. The two clubs had refused to sign contracts for future matches pending an increase in rates. It was requested that remarks be kept brief and be restricted to the one agenda item. Barney expressed his desire to be able to retain the two member clubs. He described their value to himself and the organization as a whole. He also expressed his concern about the all our players and the effect that a price increase would have on them. Sawgrass Country Club's explanation: Glenn Dobrick described the issues at Sawgrass and said the absolute minimum increase that they could accept is $5. That would mean that each player would pay Sawgrass $49 for golf, cart, range balls, and lunch--all inclusive. Also, each player would pay $8 for prizes and $3 for MSIS administrative cost: a total of $60 for each player. Glenn also stated that matches at Sawgrass would need to be played in 'preferred' months of the year. World Golf Village's (WGV) explanation: Jock Ochiltree described the issues at WGV and said the absolute minimum increase that they could accept is $5 at Slammer & Squire and $8 at King and Bear. He later softened this by saying he thought he could convince management at WGV to accept a $5 increase at both courses. To clarify, that would mean that each player would pay WGV $49 for golf, cart, range balls, and lunch--all inclusive. Also, each player would pay $8 for prizes and $3 for MSIS administrative cost: a total of $60 for each player. Jock also stated that matches at WGV would need to be played in 'preferred' months of the year. Discussion Each Team Representative or Proxy took a turn at explaining how his team felt about fee increases and described ways they thought we should solve this problem. Then Barney opened the floor for motions. Decision A couple of motions were introduced, discussed, and subsequently voted down. A third motion was proposed by Gary Owensby and seconded by Miles King. That motion was to pay all clubs $60 (less $3 admin cost) per player per event effective for all new contracts for matches after June 1, 2012. A couple of matches are already under contract for $55 (less $3 admin cost) for dates after June 1, 2012. The motion stated that players will be charged $60 for those matches but the extra $5 would be deposited in the MSIS bank account. This motion passed 12 for and 4 opposed. III – Adjournment Hearing no objections, Chairman Poston adjourned the meeting at 10:40 a.m. Much thanks from the Men's Senior Interclub is extended to Sawgrass CC who donated the use of the meeting room and also provided coffee, tea, and cookies.
